New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday hit back at the Opposition’s protest on Wednesday regarding Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments on BR Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha. In a post on X, Modi said that Shah had revealed Congress’ troubling history of disrespecting Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha.
“If the Congress and its rotten ecosystem think their malicious lies can hide their misdeeds of several years, especially their insult towards Dr. Ambedkar, they are gravely mistaken!” he wrote on X. “The people of India have seen time and again how one Party, led by one dynasty, has indulged in every possible dirty trick to obliterate the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar and humiliate the SC/ST communities, ” he added.
PM accuses Congress of disrespecting Ambedkar
The prime minister criticised the Congress party for withholding the Bharat Ratna from Ambedkar and for refusing to place his portrait in Parliament’s Central Hall.
“The list of the Congress’ sins towards Dr. Ambedkar includes: Getting him defeated in elections not once but twice, Pandit Nehru campaigning against him and making his loss a prestige issue, denying him a Bharat Ratna, denying his portrait a place of pride in Parliament’s Central Hall,” the PM wrote on X.
PM Modi added, “Congress can try as they want but they can’t deny that the worst massacres against SC/ST Communities have happened under their regimes. For years, they sat in power but did nothing substantive to empower the SC and ST communities.”
What did Amit Shah say?
Congress has accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of disrespecting Dr BR Ambedkar during his speech in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday and has called for an apology. While concluding a two-day discussion in the Rajya Sabha on the 75th anniversary of the Constitution, Shah criticised the Congress party. He said that it had turned the practice of invoking Ambedkar’s name into a ‘fashion.’ The comments were met with strong reactions from several Congress leaders, including Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. In a post on X, Gandhi said that those who uphold the Manusmriti would inevitably clash with Ambedkar’s ideals.
