New Delhi: With Assembly elections in Haryana approaching, the Congress is pulling all out all the stops to unseat the BJP government. The party is also considering forging an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). However, no formal talks have held between the two parties yet to decided if they will continue their alliance from the Lok Sabha polls.
In the recently-held Lok Sabha polls, the Congress managed to win five seats in Haryana while the AAP failed to open its account in the state. the two parties fought the elections together in the state.
Will Congress, AAP join hands for Haryana polls?
Amid the poll countdown, a big question is doing the rounds in political circles – Will Congress and AAP stitch pre-poll alliance for Haryana elections. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has reportedly expressed interest in the possibility of an alliance with the Arvind Kejriwal-led party in poll-bound Haryana.
It is learnt that Gandhi in a meeting of Congress’ Central Election Committee (CEC) on Monday sought opinion of his party leaders on forging an alliance with the AAP. According to reports, the Congress has already finalised list of 30 candidates in the election to the 90-member Assembly.
Some Congress leaders in Haryana, however, are not in a favour of forging alliance with AAP in the state. Senior Congress leader in Haryana Kumari Selja recently said that her party is strong in the state and will go solo in the elections.
What AAP said on possibility of alliance with Congress
Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Tuesday welcomed reports that Rahul Gandhi is contemplating forging an alliance with AAP. He said a final call on this will be taken with the approval of Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, in jail in a money laundering case. He also said that defeating the BJP is a priority of all the opposition parties.
“Defeating the BJP and its politics of hatred and politics against people, farmers and youth is a priority for all of us,” Singh said. “Any final decision in this regard will be taken by our leaders associated with organisational and election related works in Haryana, after approval of Kejriwal,” he added.
Elections in Haryana is slated to be held on October 5 and counting of votes will be done on October 8.
