Kolhapur: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that his party would increase the reservation limit in Maharashtra if voted to power in the state. He added that the limit of 50 percent reservations in Maharashtra will also be removed.
“If our government comes to power, we will increase the reservation limit. The limit of 50 percent reservation will be removed,” the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha said while speaking at an event on Kolhapur
Congress will conduct caste census: Rahul Gandhi
Addressing the event, the former Congress president said that if voted to power in Maharashtra, the government will conduct also caste census in the state and will also work on the population of different casts and their financial conditions. Apart from these a study will slos be done on the conditions of Dalits and backward classes in Maharashtra.
“No power can stop this. It will be passed and a law will be made. Earlier PM Narendra Modi used to say that the BJP will cross 400 seats, but people of the country did not let him touch the figure. After that he had to bow his head to the Constitution. There are two ways to protect the Constitution. While one of them is caste census, the other is breaking the barrier of 50 percent reservation.
‘BJP does not believe in the ideology of Shivaji Maharaj’
Rahul Gandhi said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of not believe in the ideology of Shivaji Maharaj, but works against his ideology round the clock. Addressing the gathering after unveiling the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, he said, “ The BJP does not follow the ideology of Shivaji Maharaj. They work against ideology 24 hours a day. On the other hand, our fight is to save the Constitution. Our fight is the fight for ideology. Shivaji Maharaj fought war against injustice throughout his life and taught us to walk on the path of truth. We will continue to fight for people’s ‘right to justice’ by following his path.”
He added, “The statue of Shivaji Maharaj is not just a statue but an ideology. A statue is made when we wholeheartedly support the ideology and deeds of a person. But BJP does not believe in Shivaji’s ideas.”
