New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed confidence that the textile sector in the country would achieve the target of Rs 9 lakh crore exports ahead of its deadline in 2030. He added that the country currently stood at the sixth position in terms of exports of textile, which is currently valued at Rs 3 lakh crore.
Speaking at the Bharat Tex 2025 in the national capital on Sunday, the PM observed, “The success is due to to the hard work and consistent policies which have been taken in last ten years, which led to a doubling of foreign investment in the textile sector.”
‘Confident that India will achieve the target before the deadline’
He added, “I am confident that India achieve the target before the 2030 deadline.” It may be noted that India’s textile sector is a major employment generator. It also helps in contributing 11 percent to the manufacturing sector.
Importantly, during the Union Budget for 2025-26 on February 1 this year, the government provided an outlay of Rs 5,272 crore in Budget estimates, which was an increase of 19 percent as compared to the last fiscal year.

Noting that the annual event is becoming a big global event, the Prime Minister also urged the banking sector to provide aid to the textile sector, “Our focus is on the technical textile sector. India making its presence felt in this space,” news agency PTI quoted him as saying.
During his interaction with participants, PM Modi further outlined his vision for the sector, which includes farm to fiber; fiber to factory; factory to fashion; and fashion to foreign. “This vision is creating new opportunities for farmers, weavers, designers, and traders”, he added. He also urged the textile industry to collaborate with well-known educational institutes institutes like IITs for the develop of new tools.
