Guwahati: A complaint has been filed against Maulana Sajid Rashidi for allegedly using derogatory words to demean Hindu deities. The complaint has been filed by one Santanu Saikia at Hatigaon Police Station in Assam’s Guwahati.
“I wish to bring to your urgent attention a grave matter that has caused deep distress to me and millions of other Hindu citizens across the country. On Thursday, the 10th of October, 2024, during a panel discussion aired on the TV channel Times Now Navabharat, Maulana Sajid Rashidi made blasphemous and deeply offensive remarks against a revered Hindu deity,” Saikia said in his complaint.
The complainant alleged that Maulana Sajid made the disparaging remarks during the TV debate.
“This statement is not only a direct insult to Hindu religious beliefs but also deeply offensive, with the clear intent of outraging the religious sentiments of millions of Hindus. His remarks are not only derogatory but are also inflammatory, aimed at provoking enmity between religious communities,” Saikia added.
Maulana Rashidi is popular face on the TV and made several controversial statements in the past. The compolainant has demanded that the cleric be booked under Section 299 of BNS (Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), Section 196 (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language), among other sections of BNS.
