New Delhi: The four co-owners of a basement of a coaching institute where three civil service aspirants drowned recently have moved a city court seeking bail.
Bail pleas of four co-owners of coaching basement are likely to be heard on Wednesday
Four co-owners – Tejinder Singh, Parvinder Singh, Harvinder Singh, and Sarabjeet Singh – of a IAS coaching building in Old Rajendra Nagar – Rau’s IAS Study Circle coaching institute – were arrested in the case by the Delhi Police two days after the incident and are accused of abetting the offences. Earlier, their bail pleas were rejected by a court.
The pleas of the four co-owners of the basement is likely to be heard on Wednesday by Principal District and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna.
The Delhi Police had also arrested a SUV driver – Manuj Kathuria – in connection with the incident with the allegation that he drove his Force Gurkha car through the rainwater-flooded street resulting in water to swell and breach the gates of the said coaching institute and inundating the basement.
Delhi High Court last week transferred case to CBI
The Delhi High Court, while raising questions on the investigation by the Delhi Police into the matter, transferred the investigation of the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) last week “to ensure the public has no doubt over the investigation”.
The High Court also questioned the Delhi Police for arresting the SUV driver and not questioning the officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Delhi Fire Service (DFS).
“Having regard to the seriousness of incidents and that it may involve corruption by public servants, this court transfers the investigation to CBI,” the High Court said while transferring the matter to the CBI.
