New Delhi: A city court on Wednesday (September 4) sent six persons, arrested in the case of the drowning of three civil services aspirants in the basement of a coaching centre in Old Rajendra Nagar, to 14-day judicial custody till September 18.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Nishant Garg sent Rau’s IAS Study Circle owner Abhishek Gupta, coordinator Deshpal Singh and basement co-owners Tejinder Singh, Parvinder Singh, Harvinder Singh and Sarabjeet Singh to judicial custody on an application by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seeking their judicial custody.
CBI did not seek further custody of six persons
The six were produced before the court after the end of their four-day CBI custody. The CBI did not seek their further custody, submitting that their further custody is not required.
The CBI has filed the case into the incident for various alleged offences, including criminal negligence, dereliction of duties and corrupt practices indulged in by any person, including officials of the local authorities.
Delhi High Court transferred probe from Delhi Police to CBI
The case was initially being investigated by the Delhi Police, which had registered a case under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including section 105 (culpable, including homicide not amounting to murder). The Delhi High Court, while hearing a plea seeking investigation into the incident by a high-level committee, transferred the probe of the case from the Delhi Police to the CBI.
The central agency earlier told the court that the basement of the coaching institute building was allegedly being used for library and examination hall in contravention of the approved usage of the basement and the lessor and the lessee knowingly agreed to use the basement of the coaching centre for the commercial purpose of running the coaching institute.
