New Delhi: A city court on Monday (February 10_ granted bail to former CEO and coordinator of coaching centre in Rajinder Nagar – RAU’s IAS Study Circle – in a case lodged following the drowning of three civil services aspirants in the basement of the coaching centre in July last year.
Principal district and sessions judge Anju Bajaj Chandna granted bail to coaching centre CEO Abhishek Gupta and coordinator Deshpal Singh, who were on interim bail till now, on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh with two sureties of the like amount.
What did the court say?
“Accused/applicant Abhishek Gupta and Deshpal Singh are admitted to regular bail on furnishing personal bonds in the sum of Rs 1 lakh with two sureties of the like amount to the satisfaction of the trial court,” the court said.
CBI filed a case for various offences
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which was handed over the investigation of the case by the Delhi High Court, filed a case for various offences against various persons, including criminal negligence, dereliction of duties and corrupt practices indulged in by any person, including officials of the local authorities.
The High Court, while hearing a plea, had on August 2, 2024 transferred the investigation of the case from the Delhi Police to the CBI.
Three civil services aspirants lost their lives on July 27 last year
Three civil services aspirants – Shreya Yadav, Tanya Soni and Nevin Dalwin – drowned in the basement of the coaching centre – Rau’s IAS Study Circle – in Old Rajinder Nagar and lost their lives after the coaching centre’s basement was flooded following heavy rains in the evening of July 27 last year.
High Court recently granted bail to co-owners of basement of coaching centre
Recently, the Delhi High Court granted bail to the co-owners of the basement of the coaching centre – Parvinder Singh, Tajinder Singh, Harvinder Singh and Sarbjit Singh – agreeing with their submissions before the court that their role was limited to being the owners of the property where the incident occurred.
