New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday reserved its verdict on the bail pleas moved by four jailed co-owners of the basement of a coaching centre building in Old Rajendra Nagar where three students lost their lives after drowning on July 27.

Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma, while reserving the verdict on the plea of basement co-owners – Parvinder Singh, Tajinder Singh, Harvinder Singh and Sarbjit Singh – asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to inform it the reason behind heavy waterlogging on July 27 in Old Rajendra Nagar.
The four co-owners of the coaching centre basement have moved the High Court against the order of the trial court refusing to grant them bail saying that the investigation into the incident by the CBI was at an initial stage and specific role of the co-owners had to be ascertained.

The counsel representing the co-owners of coaching centre – RAU’s IAS Study Circle – urged the High Court to grant them bail. The counsel had earlier submitted that the co-owners cannot be held liable for the deaths of three students.
The CBI opposed the bail pleas of the co-owners, saying that the investigation into the case was at initial stages and no relief should be granted to them until the independent witnesses are examined as they may be influenced. The CBI counsel also told the bench, when queried, that a charge sheet in the case is expected to be filed in 10 days.
The counsel representing the father of the deceased victim Nevin Delvin also opposed the grant of bail to the co-owners.
The High Court, while reserving the order on the bail pleas, asked the CBI to file a status report explaining the reason behind the heavy waterlogging in the area, the amount of rainfall received on the day of the incident (July 27) as well as on the aspect of installation of heavy gates at the entrance of the coaching centre to “block” any water from the road, news agency PTI reported.
High Court transferred probe from Delhi Police to CBI
Shreya Yadav, Tanya Soni, and Nevin Dalwin – drowned in the basement of the coaching centre after the basement of the coaching centre was flooded following rain in the evening of July 27.
The High Court transferred the investigation of the case from the Delhi Police to the CBI.
