New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday (February 6) transferred all the petitions against the results of Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)-2025 for admissions to the undergraduate (UG) and post-graduate (PG) law courses in various National Law Universities (NLUs) pending before various high courts to the Delhi High Court.
A bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna and Justices Sanjay Kumar and KV Viswanathan passed the order on a plea moved by the NLUs consortium, which sought transfer of all the cases to a single high court to avoid contradictory orders on the issue.
Records be transferred within seven days, apex court directed
The apex court bench directed records of the matters related to CLAT-2025 UG and PG admissions be transferred to a the division bench of the Delhi High Court expeditiously within seven days.
“List before the Delhi High Court on March 3. Registrar of each High Court should send the papers (of the concerned case pending before them) to Delhi High Court within seven days of this order,” the apex court directed.
Apex court also passed an omnibus order
The bench also passed an omnibus order to transfer any other pending petition related to the CLAT UG and PG admissions in other high courts to the Delhi High Court.
“We are also inclined to pass an omnibus order that in case any other high court or in any other matter, the respondent/consortium of universities are entitled to file a copy of this order before the High Court for transfer of case to Delhi High Court,” the bench said.
Several pleas are currently pending before various high courts
Several pleas are currently pending before the high courts of Delhi, Bombay, Punjab and Haryana, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh against the results of the CLAT-2025 exam held in December 2024.
The apex court earlier hearing the matter had said that it was inclined to transfer all the pending pleas to the Punjab and Haryana High Court where first petition was filed.
