A class 10 student was allegedly abducted and raped by a young man while on her way to tuition. The victim reported that the traumatic event unfolded on Friday evening, but her suffering came to light only the following day when she attempted to take her own life.
The girl’s family, deeply troubled by the situation, lodged a formal complaint at the Gaighata police station in North 24 Parganas on Saturday night. The accused, whose identity has not been disclosed, was swiftly apprehended by law enforcement following the family’s allegations.
According to the victim’s relatives, the harassment had been ongoing for approximately a year and a half. In an attempt to resolve the issue, an arbitration meeting was held months prior, during which the accused admitted his wrongdoing and offered an apology. However, this did not deter him from allegedly escalating his actions.
On the fateful evening, as the girl made her way to her tuition class, the accused reportedly confronted her in the middle of the road. He tied her hands and forcibly dragged her into a nearby forest, where he threatened her with rape if she dared to speak out about the incident. This traumatic experience left the girl in a state of despair.
The gravity of the situation became apparent when, on Saturday afternoon, the victim attempted to hang herself in her home. Fortunately, family members intervened in time, saving her life and revealing the horrific details of her ordeal. In response to this alarming revelation, Gaighata BJP MLA Subrata Thakur and party workers rallied around the family, accompanying them to file a formal complaint at the police station.
Following their report, police acted quickly, arresting the suspect on Saturday night. An investigation into the incident is currently underway, as authorities seek to uncover more details surrounding this distressing case of harassment and attempted abduction.
