Mumbai: Tensions are rising in Maharashtra as the assembly elections draw near, with political excitement spreading across the state. Every political party is campaigning hard to secure victories for their candidates and prominent leaders are visiting Maharashtra to support their parties.
Amid the election buzz, the model code of conduct is in place, keeping the state’s administrative and security systems on high alert. However, despite the precautions, a heated clash broke out between workers of Congress and the Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena in Dharavi, Mumbai.
How the clash took place
According to TV9 Marathi reports, supporters of Congress and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faced off during an election campaign in Dharavi. The confrontation started with verbal exchanges and escalated into a physical clash, where workers from both sides pushed each other.
Slogans were shouted, and some party workers were reportedly injured in the altercation. The constituency is seeing a tough competition between Congress candidate Jyoti Gaikwad and Rajesh Khandare from Shinde faction.
Several injured in clash
The situation became more serious when supporters of the Shinde faction allegedly pushed Raju Godse, the husband of Congress MP Varsha Gaikwad, while shouting slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram.’ The incident has sparked tension in Dharavi, leading to increased police presence in the area to prevent any further escalation.
Following the clash, both Congress and Shiv Sena workers gathered outside the Dharavi Police Station, demanding action.
