New Delhi: In a shocking incident that has come to light from Koriya district of Chhattisgarh, a 36-year-old man, who is a rape convict and was out of parole, raped his 11-year-old daughter and 12-year-old niece.
According to the police, the accused is a history-sheeter and he had committed rapes in the past. He was already serving time in Ambikapur jail for committing another brutal rape. The minor daughter told the cops that her father raped her at home on October 19 and intimidated her with dire consequences if she revealed about the incident to anyone.
Koriya SP Suraj Singh Parihar was quoted as saying by Times of India that the man then raped his niece on October 21. He took her to the forest telling her that they would gather firewood there. There, he sexually assaulted her and threatened her as well.
Even though the minor cousins shared their trauma with each other, they were scared to approach the police. Finally, they gathered enough courage and reported the rapes to the cops on Saturday. Police found their accounts of the sexual assaults horrifying. After he came to know that the girls had gone to the police, the accused fled and was on the run.
Several teams were fanned out to nab the culprit as the cops realised that he was a serial rapist. As the man was not using mobile phone, it was tough for the cops to track him. After tapping into their information network, they nabbed the man in a forest in neighbouring Korba district on Sunday. The rapist was charged under Pocso Act and different sections of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The man was produced before the court and sent behind bars.
A similar case in Sivaganga
In another similar incident recently, a 32-year-old man, who was a prematurely released rape convict in a 2014 Pocso case, was held by the Sivaganga taluk police for allegedly raping and murdering a 13-year-old girl from Madurai. The man dumped her body in a well in Sivaganga after killing her. The girl’s body was retrieved by fire and rescue services personnel. One of her arms was fractured.
