Narayanpur: As many as seven naxals were killed in an encounter with security forces in South Abujhmad area of Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday. As per officials, all seven bodies were recovered from the encounter site, including that of a top Naxal.
Sharing details, security officials said that intermittent firing was going on between the security forces and the Naxals since 3 am. The naxals had started firing when a joint team of Special Task Force, Central Reserve Police Force and District Reserve Guard of Narayanpur, Dantewada, Jagdalpur and Kondagaon districts was conducting an anti-Naxal search operation in South Abujhmad area. As per CRPF sources, the search operation is still going on.
One Naxal killed on Wednesday
Earlier on Wednesday, Naxalite was killed in another encounter with security personnel in Bijapur district of the state, the police said. As per security forces, two security personnel were also injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast, that was triggered by Naxalites in the operation.
The firing took place in a forest near Munga village after a team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) had gone for an anti-Naxal operation. The security forces had launched the operation after it received input about the presence of Dinesh Modiam, a Maoists’ divisional committee member and other leaders apart from 30-40 Naxal cadres in Munga area.
IED, pistol, and remote switches recovered
The firing began when the patrolling team was cordoning off the area, an official said. After the gunfire stopped, security forces recovered body of a Naxalite, one 9 mm pistol, one IED, six remote switches used to trigger IEDs, and other Maoist-related material. The injured security personnel were shifted to a local hospital even as the search operation continued in the area.
