Chennai: The National Investigation Agency will take over the investigation into the Tamil Nadu train accident that saw the Mysuru-Darbhanga Express colliding with a stationary goods train, derailing 12 of its coaches and two catching fire on Friday night.
Sources said the decision to hand over the probe to the NIA has been taken after the Railways suspected a sabotage attempt behind the passenger-goods train collision in the Ponneri-Kavarapettai section in Chennai Rail Division.
The Mysuru-Darbhanga Express was given a green signal to move ahead but the train entered a loopline instead of getting into the main line which led to colliding with the goods train standing in the loop line.
According to the Railways, no casualties have been reported in the accident, however, multiple passengers suffered minor injuries and have been shifted to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
