Chennai: In a significant move, the Chennai Metro Rail administration has announced a Diwali bonus of Rs 15,000 for its non-executive employees, marking the first such incentive in its 10-year history. This marks a significant change, as employees have not been awarded a Diwali bonus since the establishment of the Chennai Metro Rail Corporation (CMRL).
This bonus is exclusive to employees who have completed a minimum of six months of service during the 2023-24 fiscal year. Those who have served the full year will receive the entire amount, while others will get a proportionate bonus based on their tenure, according to CMRL.
Tamil Nadu Govt’s Diwali Surprise: 15,000 Bonus for Metro Rail Staff
It is to be noted that the Chennai Metro Rail Employees’ Association hadearlier requested Chief Minister MK Stalin to provide bonuses to the employees, and this announcement fulfills that request. Additionally, the government has declared that meetings will be held between government employees’ unions, groups, and senior officials every three months, and between government department secretaries every six months.
This development comes on the heels of other significant announcements for Tamil Nadu government employees. Recently, the state government announced up to 20% additional pay and ex-gratia for ‘C’ and ‘D’ category workers and employees in government public sector undertakings. However, this has raised questions about when the dearness allowance will be increased.
