Chennai: Tamil Nadu-based popular food vlogger Mohammed Irfan has landed in controversy after uploading a video of himself cutting the umbilical cord of his newborn daughter at a private hospital in Chennai’s Sholinganallur area. The baby girl was born last July, and Irfan, without proper medical training or precautions, cut the umbilical cord, raising concerns about infection and patient safety. He then uploaded the video on his YouTube channel.
Following this, the Directorate of Rural Medical Services of the state governement has taken swift action, fining the hospital Rs 50,000 and banning it from admitting new patients for 10 days. However, the hospital can continue treating existing inpatients.

Additionally, a police complaint has been filed against Irfan and a female doctor of a private hospital named Rainbow hospital in Shollinganallur area who allowed the unauthorized procedure. Investigations are ongoing.
This incident follows Irfan’s previous controversy surrounding his unborn child’s sex reveal video. Medical professionals emphasize that cutting the umbilical cord requires sterile conditions and trained expertise.
Irfan’s actions have sparked widespread outrage, with many demanding stricter consequences for the YouTuber and the hospital. The incident highlights concerns about hospital negligence, patient safety, and the ethics of sharing sensitive medical procedures on social media.
The Tamil Nadu Medical Council has also taken note of the incident and may take further action against the doctor involved.
