New Delhi: Yuvraj Singh’s NGO YouWeCan Foundation’s latest awareness campaign was slammed by netizens for camparing breasts to “oranges”. The ad poster that encouraged women to do monthly check-ups carried the slogan “Check your oranges”. Netizens were livid and called the campaign “tone-deaf” and “offensive”.
The creative poster of the campaign showcased women travelling in a bus. While a young woman was standing with two oranges in her hand, elderly women were seated with a basket full of oranges in front of them. An X user, who spotted the ad inside a Delhi Metro coach, shared the image and bashed the NGO for their thoughtless campaign execution. The user @Erroristotle wrote, “Saw this at Delhi Metro and like what the hell? Check your oranges? Who makes these campaigns, who approves them? Are we governed by such dumb people that they let this poster become public? Shameful and embarrassing.”

The poster garnered similar reactions from other netizens too. Many were stunned and commented on the poor quality of the images, in addition to the usage of “oranges” instead of breasts. Some wondered what would have stopped the designers from using the word “breasts”.
“Just writing ‘get yourself checked for breast cancer’ in big bold letters would have done a 100x more effective job,” opined one.
Another claimed that the creators of the campaign might have referred to “peau d’orange breast”– a symptom of aggressive breast cancer. Meanwhile, everyone agreed that the intent was surely good but the ad failed terribly with its poor vocabulary and representation.
