New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is the wealthiest CM in the country, with assets exceeding Rs 931 crore, according to a report by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). In sharp contrast, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee is the least wealthy, with declared assets of Rs 15 lakh.
Arunachal Pradesh’s Pema Khandu ranks second among the richest CMs with assets worth Rs 332 crore, while Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah is third with over Rs 51 crore.
Average assets of CMs is Rs 52.59 crore
Jammu and Kashmir’s Omar Abdullah, with Rs 55 lakh, and Kerala’s Pinarayi Vijayan, with Rs 1 crore, are the second and third least wealthy CMs, respectively.
The average assets of India’s 31 chief ministers (States and UTs) is Rs 52.59 crore, with two CMs being billionaires. The average income of a CM, Rs 13,64,310, is 7.3 times the country’s per capita income of Rs 1,85,854 for FY 2023-24.
The ADR report also mentioned about the criminal cases against the chief ministers. Thirteen CMs in the country have criminal cases against them, with 10 facing serious charges such as attempted murder, kidnapping, bribery, and criminal intimidation.
West Bengal’s Mamata Banerjee and Delhi’s Atishi are the only women of the 31 chief ministers in the country.
