New Delhi: A CEO took to a social platform to enlist why she denied leave to an employee getting married. Her reasons left netizens dismayed. They called out the CEO for creating a toxic environment at work and even opined it might be her tactic to get more engagement on her post.
Lauren Tickner, the CEO of Scale Systems, shared on Meta-owned Threads that she refused to give two days off to an employee who was getting married. In her post, Tickner explained that they had already taken 2.5 weeks off and had not found a replacement and trained them before requesting a leave. She added that the company also had two critical projects to complete. In the thread, Tickner added that her employees were required to find a replacement and train them before going on leave.

She also stated that the company had an “unlimited time-off policy”, which meant employees could take leaves without asking. Further, she also explained the system of flexible time off. Tickner explained that her employees could set their work hours, work from wherever they wanted and take days off whenever they chose to. She also added, “Anyone taking too much time off loses status.”
Netizens were perplexed by the company’s leave policy. They called her out for contradictory statements. One wrote, “You’re an abusive boss with this shit. That’s all just manipulation,” wrote one. Another started, “Lauren thought she ate and she really just sounded like a lonely narcissist.”
Meanwhile, when asked why her employee should find and train replacements for a 2-day leave, Tickner stated, “When I say ‘find a replacement and train them on your daily to dos’ I literally meant: show them your checklist and have them follow it. Everything is documented.”
Despite the British CEO’s explanations, netizens weren’t convinced.
