Government could not just sit over recommendations made and reiterated. Apex court said
A three-judge bench led by the Chief Justice of India had said that the Supreme Court collegium was not a search committee and the government could not just sit over the recommendations made and reiterated by it.
The bench had also told the government that it should not just dig out skeletons from the cupboards of the persons whose names have been recommended by the Supreme Court collegium.
As per rules of appointment of judges, the Supreme Court collegium is the apex body to recommend the names of persons to be appointed as judges. After the collegium makes recommendations, it goes to the government for notification of the appointments.
