New Delhi: The Centre on Tuesday (December 3) notified the appointment of Justice Vibhu Bakhru as the Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court following the elevation of outgoing Chief Justice Manmohan to the Supreme Court.
Justice Bakhru was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court on April 17, 2013 and he was made a permanent judge on March 18, 2015.
What does the notification say?
“In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Vibhu Bakhru, Judge of the Delhi High Court, to perform the duties of office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from the date Shri Justice Manmohan, Chief Justice, Delhi High Court relinquishes charge of his office consequent upon his elevation as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India,” the notification by the Centre reads.

The Centre earlier on Tuesday notified the elevation of Delhi High Court Chief Justice Manmohan to the Supreme Court following November 28 recommendation of the Supreme Court collegium to the Centre to appoint Justice Manmohan as a judge of the top court.
Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) announced on Tuesday the elevation of Justice Manmohan to the Supreme Court.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with Chief Justice of India, is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Manmohan, Chief Justice, High Court of Delhi as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India,” Law Minister Meghwal wrote on Tuesday on social media platform X.
Collegium on November 28 recommended Justice Manmohan’s name
A five-member Supreme Court collegium comprising CJI Sanjiv Khanna and Justices BR Gavai, Surya Kant, Hrishikesh Roy and AS Oka in its meeting held on November 28 had deliberated on and had discussed the names of various Chief Justices and senior puisne Judges of the High Courts eligible for appointment to the Supreme Court and had recommended the name of Justice Manmohan for appointment as the Supreme Court judge.
