New Delhi: The Centre on Saturday announced the name of 942 service medals on the eve of India’s 76th Republic Day. The awards were announced for personnel of various central and state police forces. Last year, the Centre had announced 1,132 service medals, of which 277 for gallantry
Releasing a statement, Union Home Ministry said that out of the 95 gallantry awards, 28 have been awarded to security personnel. Among them include local police, for their service in Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected areas. Apart from them, 28 medals were also awarded to security forces in the Jammu and Kashmir.
Three medals were awarded to personnel in the North-East part of the country, while 36 other medals went personnel from other regions. Fire services personnel were awarded 17 medals.
