CBI conducts 13-hour raid at ex-RG Kar principal Sandeep Ghosh’s house in corruption probe

Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted extensive raids today at the residence of Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, in connection with an ongoing investigation into hospital-related corruption. The CBI team, which arrived early in the morning, spent nearly 13 hours at the premises before leaving in the late evening.

The investigation, which has garnered considerable attention, led to the filing of an FIR against Sandeep Ghosh and several others allegedly involved in a corruption case related to hospital tenders. The FIR has been lodged under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, as well as charges of conspiracy and fraud.

According to sourcs, the CBI officials, after an extensive search, had Ghosh sign several documents before concluding the raid. After this, the CBI team proceeded to the residence of a businessman in the Howrah area of Kolkata, who is suspected of being a key player in the alleged corruption scheme. The businessman, who previously supplied medical equipment to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, is believed to have secured a majority of the hospital’s tenders through illicit means.

CBI names several entities

The FIR, which was filed based on a complaint by Dewal Kumar Ghosh, Special Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, West Bengal, names several entities, including Howrah-based company Tara Traders, Kolkata’s Ishan Café, and Messrs Khama Loha. These entities are accused of being part of a larger criminal conspiracy aimed at manipulating tender processes at RG Kar Medical College

The case has been registered under sections relating to criminal conspiracy, cheating, offenses relating to public servants, and the Prevention of Corruption Act. The CBI’s investigation is expected to continue as they probe deeper into the alleged corruption network.

Polygraphs tests completed

CBI sources said that the main accused, Sanjay Roy, former principal Sandeep Ghosh, trainee doctors, interns, and civic volunteers—a total of seven people—have completed their polygraph tests today, conducted by the CFSL team of the CBI. If needed, a technical application will be submitted again, but for now, the polygraph tests of these seven people have been completed.
