New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), investigating the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at R G Kar Hospital in Kolkata, is awaiting forensic reports of items seized by Kolkata Police and handed over to the federal investigative agency.
Seized items crucial to ongoing investigation
The reports are expected to arrive in batches over the coming days. The items, previously seized by Kolkata Police—who initially led the investigation—have now been transferred to the CBI. These items, along with digital evidence connected to the sole accused, Sanjay Roy, are crucial to the ongoing investigation. The digital evidence includes mobile tower location data that confirms the accused’s presence at the crime scene.
According to a report by The Times of India, there are 53 items in total, with the most crucial being 40 exhibits collected by the state forensic science laboratory team from the crime scene between 8.30pm and 10.45pm on 9 August.
Mobile phone data and CCTV footage
The accused’s clothing and undergarments worn during the crime are also vital to the case. Additionally, the seized items include his bike, helmet, and sandals from that day.
Data from his mobile phone and footage from two CCTV cameras at the hospital will also serve as evidence.
The medical report on Roy, which recorded injuries on his left cheek, an abrasion on his left hand, and a mark on the back of his left thigh, will also be presented as proof.
