New Delhi: A city court on Monday (February 24) took cognisance of a chargesheet filed against an accused in an alleged organised crime case under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) also involving former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Naresh Balyan.
Delhi Police filed the chargesheet in the case, running into about 1000 pages on December 26 before the court against Ritik under section 3 (punishment for organised crime) of the MCOCA.
Balyan is currently lodged in judicial custody in the case
Balyan is currently lodged in judicial custody in the case in which he was arrested on December 4 last year.
What did the court say?
Special judge Vishal Gogne said that there was sufficient evidence against accused Ritik alias Peter to proceed.
“Cognisance of the offence under sections of MCOC Act has been taken against the accused Ritik alias Peter. Today, the IO (investigating officer) has filed on record original statements of five protected witnesses in separate sealed envelopes, along with Index… Copy of the chargesheet, along with documents have been supplied to the counsel appearing for the accused against proper receipt. Put up on March 1, 2025,” the judge said, news agency PTI reported.
Balyan was arrested in MCOCA case on December 4
Balyan was arrested in the case registered by the Delhi Police under the MCOCA by on December 4 last year while he was in police custody in another case – an alleged extortion case. He was granted bail in the extortion case on December 4.
Trial court earlier denied Balyan bail in the case
The trial court earlier denied Balyan in case. The Delhi Police, while opposing Balyan’s bail plea and urging the court to dismiss his bail plea, alleged before the trial court that Balyan was a facilitator in the organised crime syndicate. It had further argued that Balyan, along with his absconding associates, were involved in the commission of organised crime, including extortion from businessmen.
