Ambala: BSP leader Harbilas Singh died after being critically injured in a shooting incident in Ambala, Haryana. Two others were also injured in the attack that took place on Friday night. One of the injured remains in critical condition, while the other is reportedly out of danger.
The incident took place near Nawab Jassa Singh Ahluwalia Park around 7.20 pm when unidentified assailants opened fire on Harbilas’s car. Harbilas, along with Puneet and Gugal, was sitting in the car when the attackers unleashed indiscriminate gunfire. The attackers fled the spot immediately after the shooting.
Locals alerted the police, who rushed to the spot and took the injured to Civil Hospital in Narayangarh. Due to the severity of their injuries, they were referred to Chandigarh’s PGI. Despite the efforts of doctors, Harbilas succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Police are investigating the case and have launched a manhunt to identify the attackers. CCTV footage from the area is being examined for clues.
Harvilas Rajju Majra had contested Haryana Assembly elections from Narayangarh constituency on a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket. Harvilas, apart from being a political figure, also ran a banquet hall named Radhe Farm in his village and was involved in farming.
Haryana BSP chief, Dharampal Tigra, condemned the attack. He said, “This is a heinous act. There is no fear of the law in Haryana anymore. Such incidents have become alarmingly common, and strict action must be taken against the culprits.”
