Breking: Glacier Breaks in Chamoli, Badrinath Dham; 57 workers engaged in road construction trapped
Chamoli: A glacier broke near the workers’ camp in Chamoli’s Badrinath Dham after heavy snowfall. BRO (Border Roads Organisation) and district administration officers are present at the spot. The glacier broke near the border road at Badrinath Mana.
It is reported that around 50 laborers were staying near the camp. BRO Major informed that the glacier broke near the laborers’ camp, but there is no clear information about the damage yet.
The SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) has kept its high-altitude team on alert. A team of 10 people has been dispatched from Joshimath on the instructions of Commandant Arpan Yaduvanshi.
The spokesperson for the Uttarakhand Police Headquarters, IG Nilesh Anand Bharne, told ANI that a massive avalanche occurred near the BRO camp in the border area of Mana. In the incident, 57 workers engaged in road construction were trapped. Out of these workers, 10 have been rescued and sent to the army camp near Mana in critical condition.
BRO Executive Engineer CR Meena said that 57 workers were present at the spot. Three to four ambulances have been sent, but heavy snowfall is making it difficult for the rescue team to reach the location.
