Patna: Jan Suraaj Party chief Prashant Kishor, who was arrested on Monday and later released on unconditional bail for supporting BPSC protesters, has been shifted to the ICU after his health worsened following the hunger strike.
The political analyst turned politician was arrested on early Monday morning from the Gandhi Maidan in Patna where he was sitting on a fast unto death. The police had arrested him for violating a Patna High Court order that did not allow such demonstrations in the city apart from Gardani Bagh locality.
Prashant Kishor has been on fast since January 2
Notably, Prashant Kishor has been fasting since January 2 in support of BPSC students who are demanding the cancellation of an exam that was held in the state last month. He was presented before the Patna High Court on Monday, which granted him bail. However, he was soon taken to judicial custody after he refused to pay a Rs 25,000 bail bond. He was later released by officials the same evening.
Earlier in the day, he was found to be suffering from dehydration. He was soon taken to a hospital where he was admitted for a comprehensive medical check-up. His party leaders took him to the hospital in an ambulance after the doctors advice. “There are certain medical issues that need to be thoroughly examined. He is suffering from infection and dehydration. He is also weak and feeling discomfort,” news agency PTI quoted the doctor as saying.
SC refuses to examine the plea
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to examine a plea over alleged irregularities in the BPSC exam that was held on December 13, 2024, last year. A bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justices Sanjay Kumar and K V Viswanathan asked the petitioner to move the Patna High Court. The petitioners had urged the bench to consider their plea. In their petition, they said that the country witnessed the Bihar police’s harassment of protesters, who were protesting peacefully.
