Patna: Patna Civil Court on Monday granted bail to Suraaj chief Prashant Kishor hours after he was arrested while sitting on fast-unto-death from Gandhi Maidan. He was earlier sitting in protest in support of protesting students who were demanding the cancellation of BPSC exam.
Earlier, tensions increased in Patna hours after Jan Suraaj chief Prashant Kishor was arrested near the Gandhi Maidan area early on Sunday morning. The altercations between his supporters and the police heated up as the two sides clashed with each other.
Prashant Kishor was taken to custody when he was sitting a fast unto death in support of protesters demanding cancellation of BPSC exam. After his arrest, the political analyst turned-politician was taken to AIIMS for a check-up.
Arrests led to condemnation from Prashant Kishor’s support
His arrests led to widespread condemnation among his supporters, who accused the government of trying to silence their protests. “Prashant Kishor was fighting for the people of Bihar, for the students… The government is afraid of this unity,” one of Prashant Kishor’s supporters said while speaking to ANI. He added, “Physical violence against him is condemnable…We don’t know where he has been taken. We are asking, but no one is telling us where he is,” he further added.
Clashes started after the police tried to remove Prashant Kishor from the site of his hunger strike at Gandhi Maidan. He had been observing the strike since January 2 in support of students demanding the cancellation of the exam after allegations of question paper leaks.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Prashant Kishor said that his party would file a plea in the High Patna Court on January 7 over irregularities in BPSC. “It is not a matter of decision for us whether we will continue this (protest) or not. We will continue doing what we are doing now; there will be no change in it… We (Jan Suraaj Party) will file a petition in the High Court on the 7th,” he said. He also urged the RJD leader and Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav to lead the protest
