New Delhi: A 22-year-old woman’s body was found stuffed in a suitcase near the Sampla bus stand on the Rohtak-Delhi highway on Saturday, police said.
The victim has reportedly been identified as Himani Narwal from Kathura village in Sonepat. Himani was a Congress worker and had also taken part in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in Haryana. She had also participated in a number of political events, including those with Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda.
Himani had gained recognition through her performance with Haryanvi folk artists at Congress rallies and social events. She was found dead under mysterious circumstances.
Police were called in after passers-by spotted an abandoned suitcase only 200 meters from the Sampla bus stand. Rohtak police spokesperson Sunny Loura said that when officers opened it, they found Himani’s body with visible neck injuries, suggesting she had been strangled.
CCTV footage being scanned, probe on
Sampla Police Station SHO Bijender Singh said that forensic teams were summoned to the scene to collect evidence. He pointed out that the cops suspect the Congress worker was killed elsewhere before her body was stuffed in the suitcase and dumped at that place. CCTV footage is being reviewed to determine when the suitcase was placed at the location, Singh added.
Himan’s murder has left the Congress leaders angry and shocked. They have demanded thorough investigation into the case. Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra requested Rohtak’s Superintendent of Police to set up a special investigation team (SIT) for speedy justice. He underlined that the culprit should be handed the strictest punishment.
Condemning the crime, former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda dubbed it as a blot on the state’s law and order. He demanded a high-level, impartial probe, while emphasising that criminals must face stringent action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The police probe is underway and authorities are working to establish the identify of the accused and find out the motive behind the murder of the woman. A case has been registered against unknown persons under sections 103(1) and 238(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on a complaint filed by sub-inspector Narender stantioned at Sampla police station.
