Bengaluru: Vinay Somaiah, a 35-year-old BJP politician, was found hanging inside his party office in the Nagawara area of Bengaluru. Before the incident, he posted on social media, accusing a Congress functionary of abetting his suicide by filing an FIR against him.
The state home minister, G Parameshwara, as quoted by ANI, said, “The police will investigate the matter and take necessary action. The truth will come out during the investigation, and action will be taken based on the findings.”
Two months ago, Vinay Somaiah was arrested as per reports for posting a comment against Congress MLA AS Ponnanna on a WhatsApp group. Vinay was the admin of the group where the comment appeared and therefore was booked following the charges.

The Madikeri police registered an FIR against Vinay and two other individuals on the basis of a complaint by Congress worker Tennera Maina. Following this, Somaiah was arrested and later got bail.
BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra posted on X, “The suicide of BJP worker Vinay Somaiah from Kodagu is a very painful matter. A thorough and transparent investigation into the suicide must be conducted and the truth must come out.”
“It seems likely that Vinay committed suicide due to a politically motivated FIR against him due to political reasons and pressures. Since the Congress government came to power, there has been unnecessary harassment, pressure and atrocities against BJP workers. In this regard, we demand that the investigation into Vinay Somaiya’s suicide case be conducted in the most transparent manner,” he added
“I demand that the state government immediately take strict legal action against those who caused the mental stress that led to Vinay Somaiya’s suicide. May God grant the family of the deceased activist Vinay the strength to bear the grief. May Vinay’s soul rest in peace,” Vijayandra wrote.
