
New Delhi: The BJP has ended a 27-year-old power drought in Delhi. With the thumping majority in the recently concluded Delhi assembly elections, the BJP is planning to hold a massive oath taking for its new Chief Minister. And for this purpose, the saffron party is eyeing Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the national capital, a report i NDTV said citing sources.
The report also suggested that the event is likely to be a grandeur with the invitation going out to hundreds of BJP MPs and chief minister of NDA ruled states.
BJP routs AAP
In the recently held elections, the BJP unexpectedly routed Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government that ruled the city for almost a decade. BJP has won 48 of the 70 assembly seats in Delhi while AAP had to contend with just 22 seats. Congress was restricted to a duck.
The BJP is yet to finalise the name of the chief minister. Party sources say that the chief minister will be from among the MLAs only. There are also reports that the party may choose a woman to lead Delhi. The CM name could be finalise once PM Modi is back into the country from his Europe and US visit.
Swearing ceremony after Feb 16
Citing sources, the report also said that the party may conduct legislative party meeting and swearing in ceremony only after February 16.
There are several names among the Delhi CM candidates including Pravesh Verma, who is the son of late Delhi CM Sahib Singh Verma. BJP had late Sushma Swaraj as its last Delhi CM in 1998. Vijender Gupta, Satish Upadhyay, Pawan Sharma and Ashish Sood are also among the top contenders for the post of Delhi CM.
