New Delhi: As counting of votes begins for the 70 assembly constituencies in Delhi, and BJP leading in over 40 seats, the focus has shifted to Muslim dominated areas. There are 12 seats in the capital where the Muslim community can decide the outcome of the polls. Of these, seven seats–Okhla, Babarpur, Mustafabad, Seelampur, Matia Mahal, Ballimaran, and Chandni Chowk–Muslims constitute over 40 per cent of vote share.
The BJP which didn’t name any Muslim candidates is leading from Okhla constituency, with its candidate Manish Chaudhary leading over AAP’s Amanatullah Khan. From Mustafabad too, BJP is leading after three rounds of counting. Its also noteworthy that the saffron party is either second or trailing by fewer than 1,000 votes in the early trends from these seats.
