New Delhi: Almost 9 days after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stormed back to power in Delhi after registering a thumping win in Delhi Assembly polls, the Saffron party is yet to finalise its candidate for the Delhi chief minister’s post.
Multiple media reports claim that the party had decided to hold swearing-in ceremony for the Delhi CM at around 4.30pm on February 20. However, suspense remains over the name of the next Delhi CM.
Earlier, there were speculations that the decision has been put on hold due to PM Modi’s ongoing France and the US visit. But there has been not been any official update about the CM’s name even after more than two days since PM Modi landed in India.
BJP Legislature Party meeting has been postponed and is now scheduled to take place on February 19 where the newly-elected are expected to elect their leader.
Venue for the Delhi CM’s swearing-in ceremony
Reports suggest that party wants to organise the swearing-in ceremony in a grand way by inviting all the CMs of BJP-ruled states, ministers, film stars, cricket players, and seers. Ramlila Maidan in the Central Delhi and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium are among the probable venues shortlisted for the ceremony.
Notably, the party is all set form government in the national capital after staying away from the power for more that 25 years.
In the recently concluded Assembly elections, BJP stormed into power after winning 48 seats, while AAP was marginalised only on 22 seats.
Who can be next Delhi CM?
Although, an official announcement is yet to happen from the BJP high command, but names like Two-time ex-MP Parvesh Verma, who won the New Delhi Assembly seat by defeating AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, is said to the frontrunner for the CM post. Some of the other names who are said to be considered by the party high command for the Delhi CM job are Virendra Sachdeva, Bansuri Swaraj, and Satish Upadhyay.
