New Delhi: Further ramping up the Congress’s attack on the BJP and Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks against BR Ambedkar, Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said he should resign for disrespecting the Dalit icon and that what happened during the protests at the Parliament is a tactic to divert attention.
Addressing a press conference with Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Gandhi said BJP and RSS think anti-Constitution, anti-Ambedkar. He claimed that the protesting Congress MPs were trying to enter the Parliament through the Makar Dwar when they were stopped by BJP members holding placards and sticks, causing chaos.
Kharge too claimed that they were stopped and pushed by BJP MPs and that he sustained injuries but the ruling party is instead blaming them for injuring one of their members.

Here are the top quotes from the presser:
- He further alleged, “A few days before the Parliament session, the Adani case came up in America and the BJP tried to stop the discussion on it. The basic strategy of the BJP was that there should be no discussion on the Adani case, it should be suppressed… After that Amit Shah’s statement came and we have been saying from the beginning that the thinking of the BJP and the RSS is anti-Constitution, anti-Ambedkar.”
- The statement given by the country’s Home Minister Amit Shah about Baba Saheb is very sad. He also lied by holding a press conference yesterday without any facts, Kharge said.
- Whatever BJP has said about Baba Saheb and Pandit Nehru till date is all a lie, he added.
- BJP wants to divert attention from Shah’s remarks on Ambedkar that’s why they are raising other issues: Kharge at presser
- He added that Congress would launch a nationwide movement to protest Amit Shah’s remarks against Ambedkar.
- We demand that Amit Shah be sacked and we knew it would not be done, that’s why we took out protests.
