Dehradun: After making an announcement of their candidates for the urban local bodies’ elections, both the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress are facing a challenge to control the rebels who failed to secure tickets from their parties concerned.
The sign of discontentment is visible at the three-tier local bodies among the workers of both the parties. The reports about filing of nomination papers from rebel candidates are a major cause of concern for both the camps- the BJP and the Congress.
BJP’s final warnings to its rebels
BJP has given final warnings to its leaders who are showing rebellious attitude in the urban local bodies’ elections. The BJP workers, who are in the fray as rebel candidates against the party’s authorized candidates, have been asked to give up their selfish attitude in the interest of the party and the state. According to a report, more than two dozen rebels of the BJP have filed their nomination papers against the party’s authorized nominees.
BJP intensifies efforts to bring the situation under its control
The BJP’s state president Mahendra Bhatt has asked the party’s senior leaders to intensify their efforts to persuade the rebel candidates to withdraw their nomination papers. The party has communicated to the rebel candidates that it may take disciplinary actions against them in case of their failure to withdraw their nomination papers. The BJP leadership wants to avoid an uncomfortable situation for it and thus, it has involved its senior leaders to bring the situation under control.
Discontentment among Congress workers after being denied party tickets
On the contrary, the opposition Congress has also swung into action to control the growing discontentment among its workers who were denied the party tickets in the urban local bodies’ elections. The leaders, who failed to secure the congress party’ tickets for their supporters, are now being contacted by the party’s senior leaders to avoid the chances of negative impact on the fate of the party’s official nominees in the urban local bodies’ elections. Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee’s chief Karan Mahara has asked the party’s senior leaders to remain in touch with party’s such workers who are dissatisfied with the ticket distribution.
