New Delhi: Aiming to retain power for the third consecutive term, the BJP is set to release its elections manifesto for the upcoming Assembly elections in Haryana on Wednesday. The Congress which is hoping to unseat the BJP-led government in the state is also going to release its poll manifesto today.
While BJP chief JP Nadda will release the party’s manifesto titled “Sankalp Patra” in Rohtak, Congress’ manifesto will be unveiled by its president Mallikarjun Kharge.
The BJP’s manifesto for the upcoming polls in the state is likely to focus on employment opportunities for youth and women-centric initiatives. The party may also promise a slew of measures for farmers. The Congress’ manifesto is likely to focus on youth, women, farmers and elderly population of the state. In its 2019 poll manifesto, the Congress had promised loan waiver for farmers and reservation for women in government jobs.
Assembly elections in Haryana is set to be held on October 5 and the counting of votes will be held on October 8. The polls is being seen as a direct fight between the BJP and Congress. The ruling BJP is seeking to form government in the state for the third straight term while the Congress is hoping to cash in on the anti-incumbency factor to return to power after a decade. Both the BJP and the Congress were hit by rumblings over ticket distribution and saw mass resignations of several senior leaders of their respective parties.
Besides BJP and Congress, the AAP has also fielded candidates for the polls. Earlier, the AAP and Congress were planning to fight the polls together but the two parties failed to reach on consensus on seat sharing arrangements and their pre-poll talks hit a roadblock. The Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and Azad Samaj Party are contesting the election in alliance, as are the INLD and the BSP. Farmers, unemployment and law and order were the major poll issues raised by the Congress and other opposition parties to corner the ruling BJP during the poll campaigning.
