Patna: Women of Bihar shine in national and state-level games with all-round participation bringing glory to the state and inspiration to women in the state. Women athletes took lead by participating in various sporting games with landmark performances in the state’s sporting journey.
As the world celebrates Women’s Day, we salute the achievement of women in the field of sports at the international, national and state-level. Under the vision and aegis of the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Bihar has delivered a spectacular performance at national and state-level games, proving that the state’s strategic athlete-focused policies and schemes are yielding results at the highest level. Marking a major milestone in the state’s sporting history at the 38th National Games, held at Uttarakhand from January 28 to February 14, 2025, sportsperson including women athletes of Bihar achieved an historic feat with 12-medal tally – 1 Gold, 6 Silver, 5 Bronze – surpassing Bihar’s previous performances. It reflects the rise of Bihar’s prominence on the national and state-level sporting stages.

In a moment of pride, Bihar’s women made an extraordinary performance marking a new era for sports in Bihar at 38th National Games. Bihar’s women team showed extraordinary triumph by securing Gold in lawn bowls. The state has achieved this major feat after 25 years at the national-level by winning the first gold. Adding to the medal tally, Bihar’s Anshika Kumari put up an impressive fight in archery, winning silver in the women’s recurve individual event, after a closely contested final against Indian archery legend Deepika Kumari. Her performance against some of the best in the world showcases Bihar’s emerging dominance in the sport. Additionally, the women’s rugby team delivered an outstanding performance, securing Silver after a tough battle against Odisha.
These victories across varied sports highlights women’s resilience and growing strength in the sports, underscoring Bihar’s rising sporting culture and the effectiveness of structured athlete development programs. Adding more laurels Bihar’s daughter Aarushi won the bronze medal in the sabre individual fencing event in the girls’ category at the 68th National School Fencing Competition being held the Pataliputra Sports Complex, Bihar, from February 10 -14, 2025, At the same event, Bihar’s daughters won bronze medal in EP team event of fencing.
Power of Bihar’s daughters was also seen in the 68th National School Games Cycling (Road) Championship 2024-25, held at Marine Drive, on the Ganga path of Patna, from January 22-24, 2025, in which out of total 7 daughters, 5 won. About 700 players and coaches from 22 states and union territories of the country participated in the event. Suhani got Silver. Amrita, Shalini and Supriya got Bronze medals. In the under-14 girls age group, 10 km, Supriya Kumari of Bihar got third place.
Moreover, Bihar’s daughter Anshika Kumari has been selected in the senior Indian archery team for the upcoming Archery World Cup, 2025. Anshika’s selection in the national archery team is going to inspire and encourage other players of Bihar.
Bihar’s athletes continued to make history across multiple disciplines, further solidifying the state’s remarkable performance that shows Bihar’s diverse sporting excellence. This feat stands as a testament to the relentless efforts of the Bihar Sports Department and BSSA, ensuring that athletes from Bihar receive the best training, support, and resources to succeed purely on their merit.
The exceptional efforts of the Bihar Sports Department and BSSA, along with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Ad hoc Committee, received high praise from legendary athlete and Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha. She lauded Bihar’s tremendous progress in the field of sports over the past two years and emphasized that Bihar is now emerging as a strong sporting state. In a moment of pride for the state, PT Usha accepted the invitation to the Khelo India Youth Games 2025, which Bihar is set to host later this year.
