Patna:Bihar’s Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister, Dr. Sunil Kumar, has launched a campaign titled “Har Ravivar Eco-friendly Kaam, Ek Ghanta Paryavaran Ke Naam” (Every Sunday, Eco-Friendly Work – One Hour for the Environment) to achieve the goal of making Bihar a green state by 2027.
Earlier, the state government had set a target to achieve this goal by 2028. However, the minister expressed confidence that with active public participation, Bihar could achieve its green state status a year earlier.
He urged the people of Bihar to dedicate at least one hour every Sunday to environmental protection efforts.
Government’s Plan for Environmental Protection
Dr. Sunil Kumar stated that the campaign will follow the model of ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, encouraging people to engage in tree plantation and environmental conservation. The state government has set a target to increase Bihar’s green cover from 15 percent to 17 percent by 2027. He emphasized that if every citizen plants a tree every Sunday, this goal can be reached sooner than expected.
Ecotourism to receive a Major Boost
The government is also focusing on developing new tourist destinations to promote ecotourism, which will create new employment opportunities for the local population. Authorities believe that with enhanced green cover and improved ecotourism facilities, residents will be able to enjoy nature within Bihar instead of traveling to other states.
A Call to Action: Every Sunday for Nature
Dr. Sunil Kumar further stated that environmental protection is not just the government’s responsibility but a collective duty of all citizens.
He urged the people of Bihar to actively participate in this initiative and dedicate every Sunday to nature, ensuring that Bihar becomes a green state by 2027.
