New Delhi: An 18-year-old boy from Bihar’s Jamui district was arrested for impersonating an IPS officer after acquiring a police uniform and a pistol for Rs 2 lakh. The youth, identified as Mithlesh Manjhi, was flaunting his supposed new rank in his village, which led locals to alert the police. He was arrested soon after.
After his arrest, Manjhi boldly said, “I am an IPS officer.” Eyewitnesses reported that the teenager had been confidently indulging in snacks like samosas and fritters while telling people about his newly acquired “rank.”
A senior police officer said, “A young man posing as an IPS officer has been taken into custody by Sikandra police. Investigations are ongoing and we will soon arrest all individuals involved in this incident.”
Fake job promised
The uniform and pistol were seized, and Manjhi revealed that a man named Manoj Singh had promised him a job in the police force in exchange for Rs 2 lakh. “Manoj Singh told me that if I paid him the amount, he would secure a police position for me.
I had already given him most of the money a month ago, and he handed me the uniform and pistol near Khaira school. I came to inform my mother and went back to Khaira to pay the remaining Rs 30,000, but that’s when the police caught me at Sikandra Chowk,” Manjhi said. A viral video on social media captured a lighthearted moment where the police jokingly “welcomed” the fake officer into the station, with one officer saying, “Come, sir, IPS… to Sikandara Police Station.”
