Patna: The central government is set to announce a major development for the people of Bihar with the upcoming approval of the alignments for two major expressways. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is expected to approve the alignment of the Raxaul-Haldia and Gorakhpur-Siliguri expressways this month. These projects aim to improve connectivity between Bihar and three neighbouring states, fostering economic growth and regional integration.
The Raxaul-Haldia Expressway holds particular importance for Bihar’s economy. Once completed, it will establish direct connectivity between Bihar and the Haldia Port in West Bengal, greatly enhancing trade opportunities, especially with Nepal. Spanning 650 kilometres, the expressway will be constructed as a six-lane highway, passing through key districts such as West Champaran, East Champaran, Muzaffarpur, Saran, Patna, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Jamui, and Banka, Jagran reported.
9 districts to benefit
From Banka, the expressway will extend towards Jharkhand and then reach Haldia. The project will benefit nine districts of Bihar, providing a major boost to the region’s economic activities. Once the alignment is finalised, land acquisition processes will begin, according to NHAI sources.
Similarly, the Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway, which passes through a huge portion of Bihar, will improve connectivity between Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. The expressway will begin from the Gorakhpur ring road and pass through East Champaran, Shivhar, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria and Kishanganj districts in Bihar before reaching West Bengal. The project will enhance trade and travel between the three states.
Mokama-Munger road gets nod
Apart from that, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways recently approved the alignment for the Mokama-Munger Greenfield Four Lane Road, which is expected to ease travel and transportation in the region. The project is now in the land acquisition phase, and once completed, it will significantly improve infrastructure in the area, providing greater convenience for the people.
