New Delhi: In a shocking incident that has come to light from Bihar’s Nawada where miscreants set fire to a Dalit settlement and reportedly burnt down over 80 houses. Ten persons, including the main accused, have been arrested till now in connection with the incident.
A land dispute had been raging between warring parties for many days. According to some reports, a long-standing dispute has been ongoing between the people of the Paswan and the Manjhi community over non-cultivated land.
A large number of miscreants reached the Krishna Nagar village of Mufassil and started firing indiscriminately, creating chaos in the locality. Later, a Dalit settlement in the village was set ablaze. Some reports said that Nandu Paswan, a strongman from Pranbigha village, with his henchmen, triggered the blaze and unleash violence.
A district administration team rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. A total of nine fire tenders were pressed into service, which doused the blaze after a long effort. There is a huge deployment of cops in the entire village.
Nawada SP Abhinav Dhiman said that over 21 houses had been reduced to ashes, but luckily, there were no casualties. While the residents managed to flee, several animals died in the incident.
Ten people, including the main accused, have been arrested and are being interrogated regarding the fire, the police added. Raids are also being conducted to apprehend other suspects.
