New Delhi: Amid the ongoing protests over the alleged leak during the December 13 Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) prelims exam in Bihar, senior cabinet minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary asserted that no evidence has come to fore proving the leak.
Speaking to reporters, Chaudhary, a close aide of chief minister Nitish Kumar, emphasised the government’s clarity and commitment to addressing the issue. “The top official gave a patient hearing to the aggrieved parties. However, to my knowledge, no concrete evidence of a paper leak has been provided. As of now, we maintain that there has been no paper leak,” news agency PTI quoted him as saying.
Minister acknowledges disturbances at one centre
He acknowledged “disturbances” at one examination centre, the Bapu Pariksha Parisar in Patna, where candidates boycotted the exam alleging paper leak. The BPSC then ordered a re-examination for over 10,000 candidates from the affected centre on January 4. It, meanwhile, maintaining that the exam was conducted smoothly across 911 other centres across the state.
Despite the government and BPSC’s assurances, a section of candidates continues to demand a state-wide re-examination. The agitation has received support from opposition parties in both state and across the country, including the RJD, Prashant Kishor-led Jan Suraaj Party and Arvind Kejriwal led-Aam Aadmi Party.
Rallying point for opposition
Political strategist Kishor led a demonstration on Sunday has also urged the protesters to await for a government response by January 1 before resuming their agitation. Meanwhile, the opposition on Tuesday attempted a ‘Raj Bhavan march’ to press for an inquiry into the alleged leak. They submitted a memorandum to governor’s principal secretary after being stopped by the police.
They have demanded a thorough investigation into the allegations and action against officials found culpable.
The controversy has become a rallying point for opposition parties as Bihar will go to polls in second half of 2025 as it has accused the ruling NDA of mishandling the issue.
