New Delhi: In a big relief to actress Rhea Chakraborty in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, the Supreme Court dismissed a petition filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Bureau of Immigration, and the state of Maharashtra that challenged the Bombay High Court’s order to quash CBI’s lookout circular issued against the actress in the long-running case.
The top court also accused the CBI, the Bureau of Immigration, and state of Maharashtra for challenging Bombay High Court’s decision to cancel the lookout circular just because the alleged accused belongs to high-profile background.
What did the Supreme Court say in the case?
Calling the petition “frivolous”, a bench of justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan, warned the Central Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Immigration, and state of Maharashtra, “”We are warning you. You are filing such a frivolous petition, only because one of the accused is a high-profile person. It will be dismissed with exemplary cost. Both persons have deep roots in society.”
About the lookout circular against Rhea Chakraborty
In 2020, the CBI issued lookout circulars against Rhea Chakraborty and her family members in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. However, the Bombay High Court had quashed the lookout circulars, citing a lack of reasons, observing that the actress and her family had cooperated with investigating agencies.
Rhea and her family members were even questioned in an alleged money laundering case. The case was also investigated by the Narcotics Bureau Control (NCB). Sushant Singh Rajput died by suicide on June 14, 2020, sparking several controversies.
