New Delhi: Delhi BJP MLA Mohan Singh Bisht criticised his party’s decision on Sunday to nominate former AAP leader Kapil Mishra for the Karawal Nagar constituency. Bisht, who defeated AAP’s Durgesh Pathak from this seat in the 2020 elections, described the choice of Mishra as a ‘big mistake.’
“The BJP believes they can nominate anyone and achieve victory. The assumption is a big mistake. The real outcomes will be evident in seats like Burari, Karawal Nagar, Ghonda, Seelampur, Gokalpuri, and Nand Nagri,” Bisht told ANI.
Mustafabad nomination shift
The party has nominated his name from the Mustafabad constituency. Earlier, he said his intention to contest solely from Karawal Nagar, vowing not to run for any other seat. “I will not seek election from any other constituency. My nomination from Karawal Nagar will be submitted before January 17,” Bisht told ANI.
Continuing his critique, Bisht accused the BJP of favouring sycophancy over hard work, PTI reported. “In the BJP, diligent workers are ignored while those who engage in flattery are rewarded. The party’s decision will show its impact on February 5, showing the importance of grassroots activists,” he said. A BJP insider, however, said that Bisht was appeased after a discussion with BJP chief JP Nadda, PTI reported.
Protests over ticket allocation
Tensions arose within the BJP over ticket allocations for the Delhi assembly elections, which sparking a protest outside the party’s Delhi office by residents of Tughlakabad. The protesters, mostly young people, called for a change in the candidate for their constituency. They chanted slogans like “Vikram Bidhuri Tum Sangharsh Karo; Modi Se Bair Nahi, Rohtas Teri Khair Nahi,” as party leaders attempted to calm them down, PTI reported.
In the BJP’s second list of candidates announced on Saturday, Rohtas Bidhuri was chosen for the Tughlakabad seat. In the 2020 elections, Vikram Bidhuri, a relative of senior party member Ramesh Bidhuri, was defeated by AAP’s Sahiram by a margin of over 13,000 votes.
