New Delhi: The story of Bhim Singh’s reunion with his family after three decades of alleged captivity is rapidly unravelling, raising serious questions about the veracity of his claims. What began as a media sensation, highlighting the miraculous return of a son lost to kidnapping in 1993, is now a complex investigation involving multiple families and conflicting accounts.
The initial narrative, widely reported across media, recounted Bhim Singh’s dramatic appearance at Khoda police station in Ghaziabad on November 23rd. His identification by his mother, Leelawati, fuelled hopes of a long-awaited reunion. However, subsequent revelations cast significant doubt on the story.
A crucial development emerged when it was discovered that Bhim Singh had previously surfaced in Dehradun in July of this year, presenting a similar story of long-lost identity to another family. He resided with them for several weeks, identifying himself as Monu Singh. This revelation was reported by the Times of India.
Further complicating matters, a Rajasthan family has now come forward, claiming Bhim Singh appeared at their home with an almost identical account of kidnapping, captivity on a Jaisalmer farm, and eventual rescue by a Delhi trader. This family, residing in Sikar, Rajasthan, reportedly also lost a son years ago, according to an unnamed police officer speaking to the Times of India.
The Ghaziabad family, Tularam and Leelawati, remain divided on the issue of Bhim Singh’s true identity. While Tularam, a former electricity department clerk, expressed doubts and requested a DNA test, Leelawati insists he is their son. The DNA samples have been collected at Safdarjung hospital in Delhi under police supervision. Tularam told the TOI that he has asked Bhim Singh not to return to his home pending the results, which are expected within a week, as stated by Nimish Patil, DCP of trans-Hindon, to the TOI.
The police are investigating further, exploring information obtained from Sikar, where Bhim Singh is said to have briefly resided before disappearing. The lack of concrete information about Bhim Singh’s true identity leaves authorities with a challenging investigation, as multiple families are now involved and the central narrative has been significantly undermined.
