Bengaluru: Heavy rains have brought the normal life to a standstill in Bengaluru. Few people were also spotted rowing boats in the flooded streets of the city. Several neighborhoods in Bengaluru were inundated following the heavy downpour on Monday night. Many residential and commercial witnessed knee-deep waterlogging. Local authorities have been directed to act immediately and clear the streets.
Many roads have been closed to facilitate rescue operations. Northeast Bengaluru traffic police ACP informed the commuters that service road from Kogilu Junction towards IAF has been closed. The city was battered by heavy rainfall that started on Monday evening and ended at around 8.30 am on Tuesday. Bengaluru Rural witnessed 176.5 mm of rainfall, while Bengaluru Urban witnessed 157 mm of rainfall.

City reports first rain-related fatality this year
A woman died in Sarjapur area of Bengaluru while she was trying to avoid potholes, reported the Times of India. Mallika, 56, was riding pillion with her husband on a scooter. A mini-truck collided with their two-wheeler after they slowed down to avoid damaged patch of road.
This was the first rain-related fatality in the city this year. Flooded streets have affected daily lives and forced authorities to declare holidays in schools, colleges, and anganwadis and prompted a few offices to announce work-from-home for its employees. Several city residents also expressed their anguish on the social media tagging the civic authorities. They also slammed the civic body Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the government for failing to maintain and upgrade city’s infrastructure.
Flights delayed
The downpour also led to chaos at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). Heavy rain delayed at least 20 flights and led to diversion of several other flights. As many as 20 flights coming to the KIA were delayed on Monday night. HT.com reported that one Air India flight from Delhi, and around four Indigo flights were diverted to Chennai.
