Bengaluru: A woman took to LinkedIn to share a disturbing story about her friend’s ex-boyfriend to stalking her – by misusing a food delivery app. Rupal Mandhup said that her friend had dated a man working at a food delivery company. After the relationship ended, things took a strange and unsettling turn.
Mandhup titled the post, “Heard The Most Traumatizing Bumble Story this Weekend – Peak Bengaluru!” The ex-boyfriend allegedly flagged her account on the platform, giving him real-time access to her delivery locations. Each time she ordered food, he could see where she was.
Viral post
“After the breakup, the guy went full stalker mode. He apparently flagged her account in their system, which meant he had real-time access to her delivery locations. Every. Single. Time,” Mandhup wrote.
He began using this information to question her. He asked why she wasn’t ordering from her home at 2 AM, why she was in another city and if she was on her periods as was “ordering chocolates”.
At first, she found his questions odd but didn’t suspect anything. However, as this continued, she realised he was tracking her. Mandhup highlighted the dangers of personal data in the wrong hands, especially after a breakup.
“Just think about it. Knowing someone’s location and activities through a food delivery app is seriously creepy, especially given how revenge-driven breakups can be. Data might be the new electricity, but it’s also one of the most dangerous weapons in the wrong hands,” Mandhup noted.
The post has gone viral, leaving netizens shocked.
One user said, “Disturbing.” Another wrote, “Imagine if he worked for the bank she has her account in, he’d be tracking her expenses and saying: “so you went for a dinner at a 5-star yesterday?””
A third suer added, “I have heard a story where a guy checks the savings account balance of his relatives and friends and if they ever say anything about money he will exactly quote their account balance.” Yet another commented, “Netflix content!”
