New Delhi: In a shocking incident that has come to light from Krishnanagar town in West Bengal’s Nadia district, the half burnt body of an 18-year-old woman was recovered by the police.
The woman’s 18-year-old male friend was arrested from his home. He was arrested after the deceased woman’s family members filed a complaint against the man. The family alleged that the teen girl was raped and killed by him. The woman had put up a post on her last social media account hours before her death. In her final post, she had said that her male friend was responsible for her death.
The victim’s sister was quoted as saying by the local media that the man wanted to break up with the girl. “I told him to be patient with her as she was upset. Last night, she said she would be going to a pizza outlet with him. We suspect that he and his friends raped and murdered her,” the woman’s sister alleged. The mother of the victim said that the family searched for her all night. She suspected that the whole crime was being passed off as death by suicide.
Locals protest after body is discovered
Locals protested outside the police station after the woman’s body was discovered near a puja pandal close to an ashram, far away from the victim’s residence.
Amarnath K, superintendent of Krishnanagar police division, said that they have arrested the suspect based on the complaint of the victim’s parents. The parents of the man has also been detained for interrogation. “We are not sure if the woman died at the spot where her body was found. There was no sign of a fire at that place,” the top cop was quoted as saying in a Hindustan Times report. He added that there could be two crime scenes.
The CCTV footage installed in that area is being scanned by the police. The police said that only after a postmortem examination can the cause of death be ascertained and it will be established whether she was raped. The woman’s body has been sent to the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital for post-mortem examination.
